The symbiosis, of which examples abound in nature, can be defined as the convenience of two beings to stand together.
It is an unresolved dependency: actually we can also read the chapter where he talks about the exclusions because symbiosis is an exclusion. A not too much pathological exclusion tends to resolve itself if nobody participates in symbiosis. See the game “it’s all your fault” or “liabilities form download-barrel”. We must add that the symbiosis is not only normal, but it is essential in the first three years of life between son and mother. One of the problems of our society is the woman who works: the child with the working mother is irreparably damaged; afterwards he will improve but not quite. In particular, about at the eight to nine months of age, when the child is aware of her addiction and he find relief symbiotically only, then the separation from the mother is an atrocity. The child concludes that he is not important, which equates to not count, not to exist. It is only towards the two-three years that the child begins to see itself at the center of the universe. To view some types of symbiosis in transactional analysis, we use once again some examples:
In a subway, a man addressing a child accompanied by MOM says: but what a beautiful baby! How old are you? Whereupon the mother ready: five. This is a symbiosis with transposition of the subject.
Asked the Lady how are family affairs and meets her husband by declaring they’re going pretty well.
A person outside the company turns to employee asking how’s production and the answer is given by the owner.
We say that there is symbiosis when both people interested cannot do without, otherwise we introduce the concept of dependence. We can fairly say that it is an almost pathological sense of interdependence. Then if for symbiosis I mean that the employee is not dependent on symbiosis because saying symbiosis, I mean also the contrary: mutual dependency.
The characteristics of the symbiosis can be explained:
All that exists is this symbiosis only if failing one of the two symbionts other cannot survive. Example: Mr. Smith has recently committed suicide because his company was going bad.
When there is some garbled identifications you manage to identify the existence of a symbiosis. Classic example that above of mother and child by subway. I.e. it speaks directly with child and meets her mother.
1 + 1 = 1. In the symbiosis is the sum of the two beings in symbiosis whereby there is an identification between the two ego States Always taking the example of the mother, the same could not distinguish herself by her son, so much that she responded precisely in place of his son.
1 + 1 = 2. As opposed to the symbiotic relationship, in the autonomous, the ego States of the persons concerned do not identify why we wrote one plus one equal two.
Fundamental is that Parent at one side and Adapted Child at the other side. It is without a doubt the main symbiotic relationship that exists. Other typical symbiosis: Parent and Child (not limited as above only to the Adapted Child) and Adult and Child on the other side. We use at this point other examples. In the case of husband and wife in symbiotic State, all the problems of socio-cultural character must be resolved by her husband (there is not the wife’s Parent) and affective character must be resolved by his wife (there is not the Child of the husband). If Adult-Child, the wife is allowed to discuss the problems of socio-cultural order remaining however only affective part custodian (crying is only her task). These we have described are characteristics of symbiosis relationships being ruled out all other possibilities.
Adult always contaminated
This is a feature that is always present in the symbiosis.
THE SYMBIOTIC CHAIN
The symbiotic chain is established in an organization where the Parent of the last component does not exist and logically the Child of the first component (the boss) does not exist. In fact, according to our Western culture trouble the boss that dares to pull out his Child is blamed and the same happens to the last component of any organization that dares to order something. But at the same time keep in mind the famous industrialist who said: “when I get on the farm I’m afraid of the way I look at the doorman”. This is because his Child couldn’t find another vent that enter symbiotic with the Parent of the last of the class, closing so in a ring the whole process. This industrial added: “As I look at the doorman when I enter in the company I understand how things are going”. In fact the doorman (last of the entire hierarchy) is the only one who has the Parent unemployed and instinctively using it to judge the only Child available, which is the big boss. We shoud think on what has been said and we will find that this symbiotic relationship has really interesting aspects.
